WRT54GR Wireless-G Broadband Router with RangeBooster Review
Network Equipment > Linksys Routers > WRT54GR

The WRT54GR is a router which has a number of high quality features. Though it is a Wireless-G router, it offers RangeBooster, a feature which is not found in the WRT54GC, WRT54G, or WRT54GL models. RangeBooster is an add on which gives this router twice the range of other Wireless-G products. The throughput is also greatly increased. While many standard wireless routers may have a difficulty handling signal reflections, the WRT54GR uses RangeBooster with two receivers to easily locate and decode signal reflections.

With this router, you will find that the number of "dead spots" are greatly decreased. RangeBooster technology makes this router comparable with the WRT300N router, which is also capable of handling reflection signals, though it doesn't utilize RangeBooster technology. The WRT54GR also has "good neighbor" features, and will detect other wireless systems in the area. This router uses the standard 2.4Ghz channel. Even if your network contains objects that do not have RangeBooster, with this router you will see a number of improvements. When it comes to security, the WRT54GR is much like the WRT54G model.

The WRT54GR uses a Wi-Fi Protected Access system which offers 128 bit encryption. It can act as a DHCP Server, and also offers an API firewall. These are standard features which can be found on other Wireless-G routers. However, this router also supports Virtual Private Networking, which will allow you to connect to a corporate network. It can easily be configured via a configuration wizard in your web browser.
