Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router Review Network Equipment > Linksys Routers > WRT54G The WRT54G is a broadband router which has five times the speed of standard Wireless-B routers. Despite the fact that it has a speed of 54Mbps, it is still able to function with the much slower Wireless-B technology. This means you can upgrade to a faster system without having to change your existing foundation. The WRT54G is a great router for either home or office use. You can share printers, files, or a fast internet connection. There are a number of impressive features which the WRT54G has. The level of security offered with this router is advanced. It uses Wi-Fi Protected Access, an SPI Firewall, and wirless MAC address filtering. This is a bit different from the WRT54GL model, which uses a TKIP and AES encryption system rather than Wi-Fi Protected Access. The WRT54G is a router which is basically composed of three components. These three components are the Wireless Access Point, 4-port full-duplex, and the Router function. The Wireless Access Point allows you to connect Wireless-G or Wireless-B
products to the network. If you have wired-Ethernet devices, the 4-port
full-duplex 10/100 Switch will allow you to connect to them as well. The
Router function will allow you to share a high speed connection as well
as a variety of different files. What the WRT54G lacks is the push button
setup feature which is found with the WRT54GL router. This feature allows
you to automatically setup a wireless connection which is secured via
encryption. Despite this, the WRT54G is a reliable product which can meet
the demands of those who want a secure wireless network. |
